Folding Gates

By Eve Visconti

Folding gates, also referred to as security gates or security grills, are used for securing windows and doors in manufacturing, warehousing, retail, industrial sites, convenience stores, as well as for trade shows, shopping malls, sporting events, and even at airports. They add extra protection and can be folded virtually out of sight when not in use.

Benefits of Folding Gates

Folding gates provide necessary ventilation and visibility, while providing extra security for doors, entrances, and hallways. Their chief benefit is that they can be folded back when not in use. They can be used in a variety of settings, including:
  • Manufacturing Plants

  • Warehouses

  • Retail Stores

  • Schools

  • Hospitals

  • Offices

  • Homes

  • These folding gates can be used for restricting access to certain areas temporarily, such as during cleaning or maintenance, and can still allow for several accessible entrances. Portable folding gates can be installed temporarily, and simply removed and stored when not in use. Mobile portable gates can be rolled into place when needed, and rolled away when they aren't required. These gates are constructed from heavy steel and are secured with drop pins and have steel caster balls for ease of opening and closing. These gates are offered in a wide variety of colors and styles to fit the building design. They come in single, double, and portable styles, as well as in the form of barrier gates, and rolling closures for store windows. Accessories for installation and securing the gates are also available, such as brackets, braces, and locks.

    Folding Gate Installation and Maintenance

Folding gates are built to withstand tampering and are easy to install with surprisingly little hardware needed. Installation is fairly simple, and includes the following steps:

    1. Installation of axels with wheels (supplied)
    2. Stretching the gates across the opening
    3. Mounting the locking bars to wall with proper hardware so that hole in outside rail lines up with hasp in locking bar.

Installation can be done with a minimal number of holes being drilled, though there may be a need for holes in the floor to accept the drop pins. These gates don't require much, if any, maintenance, though in geographical locations with severe climates, lubrication with white grease is recommended to keep them functioning properly.
