ADT is the world's leading supplier of fire detection, fire suppression, security and communications systems. The company was originally founded in 1887 as American District Telegraph, an affiliated telegraph delivery company. In the 1890's, using call boxes and multi-signal electric protection systems allowed the company to move into the field of security protection. Today, ADT supplies technological based security and protection services to homes, businesses of all sizes, and government institutions. The company operates in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Home Security

ADT's main product offering is in the way of home security systems that protect against:

Electronic alarm systems are installed within homes and use door and window sensors, along with motion detectors and alarm sounders, to alert both you and ADT to an intrusion or other emergency. Depending upon the alarm system you choose, touch-screen consoles, wireless consoles, heat and smoke detectors, and fire alarms can be integrated into your alarm system. You can also have custom features installed to suit your desires or your home's needs. Power failure backups are available on all products.

Security Monitoring

Home alarm systems are connected to ADT's centralized monitoring stations that are located across the country. Using a standard telephone landline, these stations monitor for any alarm signals which may originate from your home. This provides continuous security whether you are on the premises or not. When an event occurs, ADT is able to take immediate action to find out if the alert is a false alarm, and when appropriate, will notify the police or fire department of an emergency.

Systems can also be set up to alert you to water leaks and flooding, or low basement temperatures that may result in frozen, damaged pipes. Having an ADT home security system typically makes you eligible for a reduction in your homeowner's insurance premium. ADT services can be ordered online, or through local distributors.

Health and Mobile Security Systems

In addition to monitoring your home for safety, ADT offers medical alert systems. These products are for individuals who wish to maintain their independence, but are looking for an effective way to notify caretakers, family, and emergency services of their need for help, should such a situation arise. ADT offers base package monitoring units with the choice of a wristband, pendent, or stationary help button.

ADT's MobileSafety products can be used to assure your safety when away from the home. A hands-free speakerphone unit with GPS location technology allows you to contact ADT for help, should you need it. ADT can then alert local police, fire, ambulance, or roadside assistance services to your location. Secondly, by leaving the unit in the car, the vehicle's location can be tracked in the event of theft. These units are small enough that they can be moved from car to car as needed.
